Updating Universalis

The Universalis program for Windows checks this site from time to time to see if a new version is available.

Alternatively, you can check for yourself. Look at the version number in the top right-hand corner of this page, and compare it with the version number the program reports to you when you use the "About Universalis" menu command.

Before you start

If you have the Universalis program open, close it before updating.

Downloading the update

First, download the Universalis installer.

Next, you need to run the Universalis installer so that it can install (or update) the Universalis program for you.

How you do this depends on your browser. Different browsers handle downloading and installation slightly differently, but here is an example:

Example: Internet Explorer 8 and Microsoft Edge

  1. After you click on the Download button Internet Explorer will ask you if you want to run or save the file universalis-setup.exe.
  2. We recommend that you choose "Run", because it's simplest.
  3. Once you have chosen "Run", the file will be downloaded, and Internet Explorer will ask you again whether you want to run it.
  4. Choose "Run", and the Universalis installation will begin.
  5. WARNING: In some cases Microsoft hide the Universalis installer program behind the web browser, so that you can't see it or use it. This is a deliberate choice by Microsoft and we cannot circumvent it. If nothing seems to be happening when you say Run the second time, try minimising the browser and you should see our installer appear from behind it.

Installing the update

Whichever browser you have used, once the Universalis installer is run it will show you the licence agreement and ask you to agree to it.

Once you have agreed to the licence agreement, the Universalis installer will update the Universalis program.
