Readings at Mass

Liturgical Colour: Green. Year: C(I).

First reading
2 Corinthians 1:18-22

‘Jesus was not Yes and No, but in him it is always Yes.’

Brothers and Sisters: As surely as God is faithful, our word to you has not been Yes and No. For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we proclaimed among you, Silvanus and Timothy and I, was not Yes and No, but in him it is always Yes. For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory. And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

Responsorial Psalm
Ps 119(118):129-130. 131-132. 133, 135. ℟135a
Let your face shine forth on your servant, O Lord.
Your decrees are wonderful indeed;
therefore my soul obeys them.
The unfolding of your word gives light,
and understanding to the simple.
Let your face shine forth on your servant, O Lord.
I have opened my mouth and I sigh,
for I yearn for your commands.
Turn and have mercy on me,
as is your rule for those who love your name.
Let your face shine forth on your servant, O Lord.
Let my steps be guided by your promise;
may evil never rule me.
Let your face shine forth on your servant,
and teach me your decrees.
Let your face shine forth on your servant, O Lord.

Gospel AcclamationMatthew 5:16
Alleluia, alleluia.
Let your light shine before others,
so that they may see your good works
and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Alleluia.

GospelMatthew 5:13-16

‘You are the light of the world.’

At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, ‘You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.
  ‘You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.’

The readings on this page are from the English Standard Version, which is used at Mass in Great Britain. The Jerusalem Bible (which is used at Mass in much of the English-speaking world) will appear instead if you set this page to use a calendar from outside Great Britain. The New American Bible readings, which are used at Mass in the United States, are available in the Universalis apps, programs and downloads.

You can also view this page with the New Testament in Greek and English.
