Operating instructions (Palm)

When you first install it on your computer, the downloaded Universalis is an unregistered version, which restricts the dates for which you are allowed to display its content. We encourage you to use the unregistered version first, so that you can be sure that the product is what you want before you buy anything.

Here are instructions for buying a registration code if you don't already own one.

Here are instructions for entering your registration code.

If you have a Windows PC and a handheld computer then you are allowed to use the same registration code for both of them. The same applies if you have a PC at home and another at work – the simple rule is that only one person at a time should ever be using the registration code.

General

ScreenshotThe left and right arrows move backwards and forwards through the days.  The numbered box between them indicates the current day of the month: if you press it, you will get a calendar listing.  Press it again to come back to the hours themselves.

To change which page you are viewing (Mass, Morning Prayer, etc), tap on the caption at the top right and then pick the page you want from the list that appears.

ScreenshotThe calendar display lets you view and scroll through the liturgical calendar.

To view the hours for a particular day, tap on the day.

To use the built-in Palm date selector to go to any given date, tap on the heading that shows the name of the month.

The Options menu

To open the Options menu, tap on the word "Universalis" at the top of the screen.

Fonts

You can choose the size and boldness of the font that you want Universalis to use.  In addition, you can choose whether Universalis should display italic text using a synthesized italic font, or whether you prefer it to be displayed in bold. The synthesized font isn't very readable on old-style (160x160) displays, but modern higher-density displays manage it quite well.

Calendars

You can choose which local calendar you want Universalis to use.  You can also decide whether you want the same Invitatory Psalm every day, or whether you want the psalm to change every day, going through the four permitted options, as the Universalis web site does.

About Universalis

This page tells you what version of the program and database you are using; it also lets you enter a registration code to unlock your trial version of Universalis and turn it into a licensed version.

Entering the registration code

  1. Start the downloaded Universalis on your Palm.
  2. Open the Options menu (see above) and select the "About Universalis" page.
  3. Tap on the button marked "Enter registration code".
  4. Enter the 9-digit registration code without hyphens or other punctuation. For example, if the code is 123-456-789, enter 123456789.
  5. Tap on the OK button.

To remove a registration code

If you are selling or giving away your Palm then you should remove the registration code even if you decide to leave the Universalis software intact – unless you are specifically intending to give away the Universalis software and no longer use it yourself.

  1. Start Universalis. Open the Options menu and select "About Universalis".
  2. Tap the button marked "Remove registration code".
