Liturgy of the Hours – Psalms, prayers and readings from every Hour: Morning Prayer, the three daytime Hours (Terce, Sext and None), Evening Prayer, Night Prayer and the Office of Readings, in English or Latin or both. Translations: The readings are from the Jerusalem Bible and the psalms are the Grail version, which is used across the English-speaking world.

The Order of Mass – The new English translation of the Order of Mass, which came into use in 2011. You can optionally view the text in Latin and some other languages side by side with the English.

Readings at Mass – First Reading, Responsorial Psalm, Second Reading, Gospel Acclamation and Gospel, plus the antiphons and prayers for the Mass of the day. Translations: You have a choice between the Jerusalem Bible readings with the Grail psalms (used in most of the English-speaking world) and the New American Bible readings and psalms (used in the USA).

Mass Today A single page that gives you the whole of the Mass of the day: the Order of Mass with all the readings, antiphons and prayers filled in.

The Gospel at Mass spoken in English (Jerusalem Bible translation) – on subscription for £1.99 per month ($1.99 or €2.49).

Compline (Night Prayer) – £3.99 ($3.99 or €3.99). Sung Latin Compline (Night Prayer) for Sundays from the Schola Cantorum of The London Oratory School, which is one of the leading liturgical choirs in Britain. The boys have recorded this music especially for use in Universalis. Here is a short sample.

Spoken daytime Hours in Latin on subscription for £2.99 per month ($2.99 or €3.49). Terce, Sext and None (Mid-Morning, Midday and Afternoon Prayer) for every day.

To see alternative texts, tap the red button at the far right. The alternatives may be different saints, or a different choice of invitatory, Creed, Preface, etc.

To see the toolbar, tap once, anywhere in the middle of the page.

To see other Hours, tap the “Hours” button at the top centre of the toolbar, and pick the Hour from the list.

To change to another date, tap the calendar button at the top left.

To change font style and size, night mode, and switch between scrolling and paging, tap the “Aa” button at the top right.

To get full instructions, tap the “ⓘ” button towards the left of the toolbar. Or just shake your phone while the app is open.

Older versions of iOS
