Downloadable Universalis

iPhone and iPod Touch users, see this page.

Instead of reading Universalis day by day on the Web, you can download the whole of Universalis and use it directly, independent of the web site.

Versions are available for Windows PCs and laptops, for the Mac, for hand-held computers using PalmOS or Windows Mobile ("Pocket PC"), and for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

What you get

You get the same as on the Web:

The daily pages from the Divine Office: Office of Readings, Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, and Night Prayer.
The daily Mass readings.
The "About Today" page.
The liturgical calendar for the whole year.

There are no time limits, as there are with the web site. The web site gives you yesterday, today, and the week ahead: the download gives you everything without restriction, far into the future. The calendar works at least as far as the year 2400.

Advantages

You get the Universalis content for all time, not just for the current week.
You don't need to keep connecting to the Internet.
The layout is clearer and easier to read and use.
You can hear the content. On Windows PCs, it works with screen readers for the blind. On Macs, it works with the screen reader that is built in to Mac OS X.
With hand-held computers, you can have the Liturgy available the whole time, wherever you are, without needing to use AvantGo and without needing to go on line.
On hand-helds with Pocket PC / Windows Mobile, your usual Today screen will contain an extra entry that tells you the feast of the day.

Disadvantages

It costs money - but we do give you a free trial mode that lasts at least a month. (The iPhone/iPod Touch version has no trial mode).
Printing facilities aren't built in. But you can copy and paste the Universalis content into a word processor, format it any way you want, and print it from there.

How much it costs

(This section does not apply to the iPhone/iPod Touch version, which you buy directly from the iPhone App Store).

To use the downloadable Universalis, you need to buy a registration code. This costs £30.00. Exchange rates vary, but this is approximately $55.

The registration code lasts for ever

A registration code lasts for ever and there is no annual subscription.

Free updates

From time to time we'll release updates, to make the content more comprehensive or to add features to the program. (Inevitably there will also be misprints to correct).

Updates can be downloaded free of charge and your existing registration code will continue to work.

One registration code, many machines

The registration code is yours. If you own a desktop PC and a laptop and a handheld, you can use the same registration code on all of them.

The only exception is if someone else (your family or your co-workers) will be using Universalis on your PC while you are using it on another machine. In that case we ask you to buy a second code. Just think of a registration code as a book. Two different people can't be reading the same copy of a book in two places at once; nor can two people be actively using the same registration code in two places at once.

The iPhone/iPod Touch version is a separate product in licensing terms. It can't share registration codes with the other versions, and it has to be bought directly from the iPhone App Store.

Try it out for a while and be sure you like it and really want to buy a registration code.
Once you are certain this is what you want, buy the registration code.
Install the registration code.
