Downloadable Universalis

A stand-alone version of Universalis is now available for download to hand-held computers using PalmOS or Pocket PC / Windows Mobile, for Macs, and also for PCs using Microsoft Windows.

What you get

  1. The daily pages from the Divine Office: Office of Readings, Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, and Night Prayer.
  2. Daily Mass readings.
  3. The "About Today" page.
  4. The liturgical calendar for the whole year.

All this information is available perpetually: the calendar works at least as far as the year 2400.

How much it costs

To use the downloadable Universalis, you need to buy a registration code. This costs £30.00 (approximately $45-$55, depending on the exchange rate). This is a one-off purchase price: a registration code lasts for ever and there is no annual subscription.

How to get it

1. Try before you buy

We can't cancel a Universalis registration code once it's been issued, so we strongly recommend that before you buy the code, you download Universalis, install it, and try using it.

When you first install it (without a registration code), Universalis works as a trial version. This has the complete calendar (past and future) but you can only see the daily pages for the month of the installation and the month after. This gives you plenty of time to decide whether you like the program and want to pay for a registration code.

System Filename Instructions
Mac Universalis.dmg Installation
Palm univpalm.zip Installation Operation
Pocket PC / Windows Mobile UnivPPC.exe Installation Operation
Windows UnivWin.exe Installation Operation

All the downloads are approximately 2MB in size. They require considerably more memory than that after they have been installed: see the Installation documents for details.

2. Buy the registration code

Here is the purchase page.

Multiple computers - how many registration codes?

If you have a PC at work, a PC at home, a laptop for travelling, and a handheld PC in your pocket, how many registration codes do you need?

One, as long as you are the only person who is going to be using that registration code.

But if your children will be using Universalis at home while you're away and your work colleagues will be using it on your work computer, and you will be using it on your laptop, all at the same time, then you'll need three registration codes.

Just think of a registration code as a book. Two different people can't be reading the same copy of a book in two places at once; nor can two people be actively using the same registration code in two places at once.

Updates

From time to time we update the programs and make the Universalis database more comprehensive. We recommend that you join the Universalis News mailing list so that you're kept up to date with progress.

When an updated version appears, simply download and install it in the same way you downloaded the original version. Once you have a registration code, it remains valid for all future versions and you shouldn't even need to re-enter it.

If you don't want to subscribe to the mailing list then you can check this page from time to time: you'll see a "Latest database version" at the top of this page, and you can compare it to the date that is shown when you view the "About Universalis" screen on your computer.
