Prices for the iPhone are cheaper: £14.99 / $24.99 / €19.99.
One purchase, several systems
If you own more than one computer - for instance, a desktop, a laptop, and a handheld - we think it's unfair to expect you to pay more than once, so we don't. As long as it's for your own use, you can buy a licence once and use it on all your machines. Think of a licence as a book: as long as two different people can't be using it at the same time, we're happy.
For technical and contractual reasons there's one irritating exception. A licence bought on the iPhone can be used on other systems, but a licence bought on other systems can't be used on the iPhone. Since the iPhone price is cheaper anyway, the answer is simple: just start with the iPhone and go on from there.
